In Classical Feng Shui, the main door is called the “Mouth of Qi” (氣口), where energy, or Qi, enters and nourishes your home. Just like we breathe in oxygen through our mouths and noses to sustain life, your home breathes in opportunity, health, and abundance through its entrance.

So, if you’ve been feeling stagnant, your career is not moving, your relationships are tense, or your emotions are heavy, start at the mouth. When the entrance is blocked, unclear, or energetically dirty, it can restrict the flow that supports every part of your life.

Let’s shift that today. Here’s how to start aligning your entrance with the classical way:

1. Open the Portal to Possibility

Stand at your entrance and open the front door wide. Visualize auspicious Qi flowing in, bright, smooth, uplifting. If you’re into time selection, choose an auspicious hour based on your home’s facing and your personal BaZi. Leave the door open for a few minutes (ideally 9) to invite this flow inward.

2. Cleanse with Intention

Wash the door inside and out using soapy water mixed with a pinch of sea salt and a few drops of orange essential oil. Salt clears stagnant or negative energy. Orange is used classically to attract joy and new beginnings. As you clean, focus on your intention: inviting peace, wealth, protection, or whatever is needed most.

3. Remove Blockages, Both Seen and Unseen

Look at your entrance from the street or pathway. Is it easy to find? Are there overgrown plants, shoes, or packages crowding it? Clutter blocks Qi in Feng Shui, and especially at the Mouth of Qi, it can prevent helpful people and opportunities from entering your life.

4. Change the Mat, Change the Message

If your welcome mat is faded, torn, or dirty, it’s symbolically saying: “You’re not really welcome.” Replace it with a fresh one. Choose a mat with strong grounding (earth tones are great), and make sure it lies flat and doesn’t block the door.

5. Make It Bright, Clear, and Alive

Ensure your entrance is well-lit, visible, and active. In San Yuan or Flying Star Feng Shui, the main door should ideally connect with auspicious stars or align with a favorable direction based on your home’s sitting and facing. But even before all of that, if the entrance is lifeless, the Qi has no reason to come in. Keep it bright. Place a healthy plant, fresh flowers, or something symbolically uplifting nearby.

These are foundational steps, but every home has a unique energy map based on its construction date, compass facing, and landform surroundings. For deeper results, the entrance must align with your home’s Flying Star chart, San He water formula, or even Qi Men Dun Jia if you’re layering advanced techniques.

If you’re unsure whether your door is helping or harming you, I can help you read it.

The entrance isn’t just where you walk in, it’s where life begins to flow.
